WINDSOR — A Hants County mother concerned about bullying at her daughter’s school has organized a camp to help avoid the kind of tragic events said to have contributed to the death of Rehtaeh Parsons.

Leanne Myles of Windsor was outraged by the 17-year-old’s death. Rehtaeh, a Cole Harbour student, attempted suicide in April and was taken off life support a few days later.

It was an honour to be invited to speak at the girls camp and a pleasure to meet Leanne. I really enjoyed connecting with the girls there and hope the talk we had was helpful. I was truly touched by the words of kindness for Rehtaeh and the interest they all showed to end bullying and to stick up for those in trouble.

I saw my daughter everywhere and it was beautiful. I have no doubt these young ladies will take what they learn at the camp and use it to help others and build better communities for us all. This is called action!

I also got to listen to an amazing young lady sing. Toni Alanis Nicholas has been in the news for her stand against bullying and she was a friend of Rehtaeh’s. The world needs more people like her.
